Each brand increased its market share by 0.61% in the six months leading up to December 31, 2019. These figures are based on data from the Insurance Behaviour Tracker, which tracked the shopping behavior and renewal decisions of 6,000 real customers over the same period. The momentum figures reveal a strong trend towards growth from brands outside the Top 10 market share, with six of the biggest growers falling into this category, including Sainsbury’s Bank, AA, and Policy Expert. In contrast, in the motor market, 7 of the largest growers held Top 10 market share positions. One Call saw the most growth in its customer base with a 37.9% increase, translating to a 0.2% growth in overall market share. Hastings and Policy Expert also experienced significant growth in their customer base by 32% and 29.2%, respectively. Several brands that experienced the most growth had above-average retention rates, including QuoteMeHappy and Admiral, at 64.9% and 64.8%, respectively, compared to the market average of 62.9%. When it comes to new business acquisition, Admiral ranked second (after Aviva) in the market, securing 6.2% of all new business sales. QuoteMeHappy followed in 13th place with 2.9% new business acquisition. Aviva remained the largest brand in the market with an 8.2% share and was also among the top 10 in terms of growth, gaining 0.3% market share.
